27 May 2026 | Press Release
Summer would not be complete without the return of Hull Truck Theatre’s Family Open Day (Saturday 13 June, 11am – 3pm). This FREE event for the whole family will once again be presented by Hull Truck Theatre and the Albemarle Music Centre. Set to be another fantastic event where the public can dive into a day of discovery, creativity and exclusive experiences at no cost. Audiences and members of the local community will be invited to see what really goes on behind the scenes of both working venues. With a full programme of family friendly activities taking place at Hull Truck Theatre, with the theme ‘Access All Areas’ families can not only have the chance to get involved together but will also learn about the different ways in which Hull Truck Theatre make theatre as welcoming and accessible as possible, for everyone. There will be loads to get involved with on the day, including: Technical Theatre Workshops, Stagecraft, Drama Workshops, Arts & Crafts, Face Painting, and a Soft Play Area – for children under 3, and at the Albemarle Music Centre you will be able to celebrate the joy of music with live performances from Beats Bus, and take part in Drum circles, Instrument “Try-Out” stations, The Big Sing and Early Years Workshops. Emma Lightowler, Communications Manager at Hull Truck Theatre, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome audiences back to Hull Truck Theatre for our Family Open Day. As a mum myself, I know how difficult it can be to find free family days out that genuinely have something for everyone and that’s exactly what this day is all about. From soft play and face painting to hands-on drama activities and technical theatre workshops, there’ll be plenty for families to explore together. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through our doors for a fun, creative day at the theatre.” Sean Miller, Partnerships and Community Engagement at Hull Music Service, said: The Albemarle Music Centre is delighted to open its doors again to the public for our annual partnership with Hull Truck Theatre for the Family Open Day 2026. New this year are our Early Years Music Workshops specifically designed for pre-school children and their families. These will run at 12pm, 1pm and 2pm upstairs in our Rehearsal Room. Additionally, visitors can take part in a number of activities throughout the day. There is also a chance to see our state of the art Production Studio and of course plenty of tea and cake from our Friend's Cafe! This is a FREE fun family day out! So, whether you’re curious, creative, or just looking for a brilliant day out with the family, come along and be part of it. There is no ticket required for this event (apart from the backstage tours) you can simply show up on the day and take part in the fun.
