Celebrating Refugee Week 2026

21 May 2026 | General News

We're proud to be taking part in this year's Refugee Week (15 – 21 June), the world's largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, resilience and creativity of refugees.

Inspired by the lives and experiences of people seeking sanctuary, Refugee Week 2026 invites us to explore the theme of “Courage”. Hull Truck Theatre in partnership with the Refugee Council will be hosting a visual art exhibition centred around this year’s theme.

All artwork has been created as a result of two art workshops, created by Refugee Council clients and delivered by Square Peg, Hull.

The launch event for this exhibition will be held on Wed 17 June, 12pm – 2.30pm on the first floor at Hull Truck Theatre, with the exhibition running in its entirety from Tues 16 – Sat 20 June, 11am – 5pm.

Everyone is welcome to attend the launch event, which entails speeches and nibbles and the art exhibition. The exhibition and launch event is free to attend with no tickets required for entry.

Refugee Week 2026 marks 75 years since the Refugee Convention - a landmark agreement affirming that those forced to flee, deserve protection, dignity, and hope. For 75 years, it has provided the legal foundation that has saved millions of lives.

Hull Truck Theatre is proud to be recognised as an official Theatre of Sanctuary.
